REBECCA BROWN

Senior School Category Winner

TITLE OF WORK: Doongalla Forest in the Fog
MEDIUM:Photography
ARTISTS INSPIRATION STATEMENT: Throughout lockdown, nature has been my outlet for calmness. These photographs are taken in beautiful Warrandyte, which captures a wide range of native flora and fauna. I am lucky enough to live so close to this beautiful part of the world, and this inspired me to share the amazing nature I am surrounded by. These pictures also represent how lockdown has been, stillness. The quiet roads, the stillness of plants and the water, all represent the ways lockdown has effected many, in a nature’s perspective.

POLLY CRAIG

Middle School Category Winner

TITLE: Doongalla Forest in the Fog
MEDIUM:Photography
ARTISTS INSPIRATION STATEMENT: The work is initially based on a previous floral still life I painted a few weeks ago. I first wanted to enter the original painting, however I thought it didn’t have enough to do with the theme. So instead I created another painting that I think really relates to the idea of beyond indoors, with a window cutting through a plain background and bright flowers coming through the window, making the plain space more exciting.

ALANA THEODORE

Middle School Category Winner

TITLE: Beauty is Nature
MEDIUM: Digital artwork
ARTISTS INSPIRATION STATEMENT: For the theme ‘Beyond Inside’ we were told to look beyond our home and look for inspiration in the beauty of the world, my interpretation of this was to take a product that is typically classed as ‘beautiful’ that being the lipstick and use the other term of beautiful, being nature. My idea was to combine the two to show the two meanings of beauty and looking beyond my home to see the beautiful outdoors.

TED HUGHES

Middle School Honourable Mention

TITLE: Black Cockatoo
MEDIUM: Photography
ARTISTS INSPIRATION STATEMENT: I am really happy with this shot of the cockatoo as I timed it perfectly to get the bird biting down on the banksia. The eye facing directly towards the camera, with the catch light draws the viewers attention.

TITLE: Black Shouldered Kite
MEDIUM: Photography
ARTISTS INSPIRATION STATEMENT: I like taking photographs of birds, as I find it very challenging to get a great shot, and very rewarding when they turn out well. I have learned a lot from bird photography, like how to track moving objects with my camera, and how to work with the subject and the light. I like this image of the Kite because it draws the eye right into the middle of the photograph, and the cloud is there to offset the minimalism.
