“The mind of the creative genius is a strange and wonderful thing. Not only have great artists created great works of art that have shaped culture and the human experience for centuries, but they also have interesting insights as to why they do what they do. Perhaps some of these insights may help spur your thoughts about art and help you on your own creative journey!"
- Henri matisse

This year's Crescendo Exhibition stands as a testament to the resilience and adaptability shown by both students and teachers when challenged by a once in a lifetime event. The dedication and perseverance of the students has delivered work that is engaging, and uniquely relevant, confirming the place of the Visual Arts and Technology within the life of students. The application of the salient skills of creativity, adaptation, critical thinking, and problem-solving are manifest in the high quality of the artworks produced by the students for the Crescendo showcase. Billanook College is enormously proud of the ongoing achievements of our students in 2021.

Finn Woodlock

Finn assumed the role of a Communication designer for his major folio of work in Visual Communication Design. His design work, created for a fictional fashion label “Anatomy Studios”, consisted of a fashion catalogue and brand identity. Finn produced highly professional and refined design solutions in response to his client’s needs and left no stone unturned throughout his design process. He demonstrated an exceptional level of technical skill in the use of his chosen methods, including digital vector-based design, illustration and photography.

Finn created a short suspense film, that is visually striking and provokes feelings of deep unease. Finn displays excellent cinematography and nuance in storytelling.

Tomasz Mazur

Tomasz has consistently applied the highest levels of effort and dedication towards his technology studies throughout his Billanook College journey, ensuring attention to detail at every turn. This year Tomasz developed a custom sized Scandinavian design influenced desk in response to the greater demands of working from home and subsequent requirement for an ergonomically suitable working space. While served up many interruptions beyond his control, Tomasz consistently maintained an optimistic approach to his work, managing to complete his desk to a very high standard. Congratulations Tomasz, your commitment to your studies is exemplary.

Adam Seal

Adam's photography series is an historical reflection on the now abandoned Lilydale to Warburton railway line. Adam has created a series of images that explore the past and express quiet forgotten beauty. His documentary style is calm and well executed and gives the viewer a contemplative persective. Adam is a talented and inquisitive photographer who always gives his best effort.

Adams dedication to the study of Studio Arts was excellent thought the year. This included completing all task asked of him in the preparation and presentation of his artworks. He has achieved an appreciation of materials and techniques and has gone out of his way to pursue excellence and presentation in a difficult learning environment. Adam receives a Crescendo Award for Excellence in 2021

Alexander de Castella

Alexander has demonstrated an extremely high level of dedication towards his work in technology throughout his time at Billanook College developing his design and fabrication skills throughout his journey. With a view to designing/creating a functional dining table that doubles as a family gathering space, Alexander worked closely with his end-user this year to develop an interactive solution that includes a reversable touchscreen that can be used as a virtual board game space. Maintaining a positive mindset and with an eye on the end goal, Alexander constantly pus his best foot forward actively seeking opportunities to enhance his skill set and find solutions to problems. An exceptional final product this year is born out of a culmination of a truly exceptional approach towards his studies in Technology over the years. Well done Alexander.

Eliza Campbell

Eliza assumed the role of a Communication designer for her major folio of work in Visual Communication Design. Her work was created for a real-world client and consisted of a brand identity and informational pamphlet for “Rescue Australia”, a Christian outreach ministry based in Melbourne. Eliza produced highly appropriate and thoughtful design solutions in response to her client’s needs. She worked through an extremely comprehensive design process in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for her client. Eliza demonstrated exceptional commitment, motivation and perseverance throughout this project, ensuring her final designs achieved their end goal of promoting her client’s organisation and the services they offer within indigenous and Aboriginal communities.

Grace Dossor

Grace has consistently pursued the very highest levels of quality in her Technology work. Always looking to design and develop highly ambitious projects, setting herself challenging pathways and, at times, difficult targets to reach, Grace never shies away from going the extra mile to ensure her outcomes meet personal expectation. In developing a very complex expanding table with an advanced internal mechanism Grace has worked tirelessly to finish what she set out to achieve during a very disjointed year in and out of the workshop. Always working with a smile and never allowing circumstances to beat her, Grace has walked away from her studies this year with a beautiful item of furniture that truly reflects the effort she has put in over her years in Technology at Billanook College. Congratulations Grace.

Aaron Hick

Aaron has shown the very highest levels of innovation and creativity throughout his studies in technology at Billanook College. Consistently pushing the envelope, developing new and interesting ideas and acquiring new skills, Aaron leads by example in the field of engineering. As an accelerated student in Units 3-4 Systems Engineering during 2020, Aaron developed a motorised long board in response to a cleaner and more efficient inner-city commute. Developing the entire platform from the ground up including fabrication of the deck along with 3D printing appropriate interchangeable gear chains to maximise speed and torque when necessary, Aaron has created a highly professional integrated system that one could expect to find on the open market as a high-end product. Aaron achieved equally high study scores in Systems Engineering and VET Engineering and he was nominated as the recipient of the 2020 Systems Engineering subject award. Well done on an amazing school career in technology Aaron, we wish you the very best in your future ventures.
